How to install Audacity 3 - Free Audio Editor

This tutorial will show you how to download and install the latest version of Audacity, a free audio editor. It is available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

Prerequisites: To follow this guide, you need to have basic knowledge about using computers.

Install free audio editing software

Audacity can be used to add, remove or replace sound effects in a recording; change its pitch, speed, volume, panning, echo effect, reverb, etc.; cut out unwanted sounds from an existing file; mix multiple recordings together into one new file; convert between different formats such as MP3, WAV, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, AAC, AIFF, Apple Lossless Audio Codec, Windows Media Audio 9.

Audacity is my number one go-to free audio editor for creating podcasts and joining music content into a single file.

You can use audacity to not only edit audio content but also to record content and export in multiple file formats including MP3 files.

Don't forget audacity also comes with a feature-rich pack of effects that you can apply to your audio tracks.

I normally use the fade in and fade out effect on my audio content, there are many others to choose from.

Audacity now has a built-in MP3 file exporter so you no longer need to add any additional files to simply export content in MP3 file format which is awesome!

Of course, there are many other audio applications such as Adobe audition but having this free software in your toolbox can make all the difference when you want to simply edit your audio content.

Can I install Audacity on a 32bit computer?

Audacity is limited to 32-bit floating-point samples at a 44100 Hz sample rate. It will also only work correctly if you are running 64bit versions of Windows 7 SP 1 or newer.

Yes, you can edit your podcasts using Audacity audio editor and export them in MP3 file format for podcast distribution.

Can I join music tracks using Audacity?

Yes, you can join music tracks and blend tracks for continuous music playback. A good friend of mine who is not tech-savvy is able to create a seamless music playlist for her dance music classes so there is no reason why you can't pick up this software and get all your editing within a few minutes.
